Famous Cities of the World: Osaka

Osaka is the home of a large number of professional sports teams. There is also no lack of major sporting venues, which provide ample opportunities for numerous people to watch various live sporting events. Osaka is a major regional and national hub for the railway system. Trains run to Osaka from Toyko and other cities on a frequent basis. Osaka is connected with Tokyo by the New Tokaido Line, whose "bullet train" provided the world's fastest rail service when the line opened in 1964. The city is also served by other railways and by express-waxs, a subway, and a large port.

Osaka is located in the Kansai region at the mouth of the Yodo River on Osaka Bay and on the south east coastline of Japan. Osaka was the historical commercial capital of Japan and to this day is still a main industrial centre and commercial port. Osaka is one of the oldest cities in Japan. The very first signs of human activity date back to 8000BC. Osaka is rich in history, culture, and entertainment and shopping. Osaka's distinguishing factor is that it is often called Japan's "National Kitchen" due to its position as the gourmet food center of the country.

Osaka is situated in the most densely populated part of the country on a plain sheltered by hills and opening on to Osaka Bay. Criss-crossed by waterways, it is a tourist centre for Kyoto and the Seto Inland Sea and is linked with Tokyo by fast electric train (travelling up to 200 kph/124 mph). Osaka is also known its almost overwhelming dominance in producing comedians (manzai, a more contemporary form of stand-up comedy). On top of this, Osaka is known for its food as well, as is evidenced by the expression "Eat till you drop in Osaka". Osaka is the largest city in western Japan, and its history dates back over 1,500 years. During the Edo Period, Osaka became an important distribution center as feudal lords sent their rice to the Osaka merchants for delivery to other parts of Japan.

Osaka is famous for its food of which okonomiyaki and takoyaki are probably the most popular. Okonomiyaki is a thick pancake filled with cabbage, egg and seafood, which is cooked on a hot plate in front of you. Osaka is flat and enjoys a temperate climate, which greatly facilitates the use of bicycles. The bikes I saw are generally cheaper and less complicated than bicycles seen in Canada. Osaka is the working heart of Kansai. Famous for its down-to-earth citizens and hearty cuisine, Osaka combines a few historical and cultural attractions with all the delights of a modern Japanese city.

Osaka is one of popular destinations in Japan. The city has earned good reputation from its famous attractions. Osaka is home to the largest population of Koreans in Japan as well as a growing number of other foreign nationals and a Korea-Town has long been established in Tsuruhashi. Between Uehommachi and Tenno-ji a fascinating area saturated by small temples and traditional houses exists and is generally ignored by tourists and their guidebooks. Osaka is a historical city. There are the remains of Naniwanomiya, a palace in the 7th century, and Shitennoji Temple which was originally built by Prince Shotoku in the year 593 and is the oldest Buddhist temple in Japan.

Osaka is broadly divided into north Osaka (Umeda area) and south Osaka (Nanba and Shinsaibashi areas), and day or night the business districts on both sides are bustling. At present, Osaka is developing the area along Osaka Bay, and amusement facilities and outlet malls have been built there. Osaka is a quite popular travel destination with high class tourist services available. Hotels in Osaka offer you diverse possibilities for accommodation, and the interesting products of Japanese kitchen are brought to you by a long row of restaurants in Osaka, many of which have also lively nightlife available.. All you have to do is have fun.

Osaka is a major metropolis that pulsates with tremendous energy and vitality. Its popularity lies with the birth of traditional theatricals like Kabuki, Bunraku puppet dramas, and culinary delights. Osaka is very much a dynamic metropolis, offering everything from world class attractions to mouth-watering eats. Your legs will feel numb walking through shopping districts for blocks and blocks with no end in sight. There are two airports in this area.

Osaka is my favorite standard-issue sushi place. Osaka is located on a large bay, which was once abundant with anchovies. This drew a vast variety of saltwater fish, while the fertile plains provided excellent fresh vegetables. Osaka is proud to house one of the world’s largest aquariums. Kaiyukan is an impressive architectural building which exhibits aquatic life from fifteen regions of the Pacific Rim’s Ring of Fire.

Osaka is replete with gourmet spots which include both fine dining and typical Japanese food. The people of Osaka are full of hospitality and greet visitors with a warm welcome. Osaka is first and foremost, a major food city and Dotonbori is where hordes of people come to practice kuidaore, which loosely translates as “eat into ruin”.
